Venice, Monday, September 4, 2017

On the occasion of the 74th Venice Film Festival at the Italian Pavilion at Hotel Excelisor, the President and Artistic Director Carlo Fumo and the conductor Luca Abete officially presented the IX edition of the International Film Festival ITALIAN MOVIE AWARD ® which will take place in Pompeii, from 10 to 17 September 2017, at the Italian Movie Arena, in La Cartiera’s Natural Park in Via Macello 22. At the end of the press conference presented by Susanna Maurandi, the greetings of the Director of SkyArteHD Roberto Pisoni awarded at the festival on the closing day on September 17th.

Retrospettiva Martin Scorsese Italian Movie Award

The Festival is officially launched in August with an Oscar ® retrospective and a well-known Italian-American director Martin Scorsese. In addition, from August 5 to September 9, the “Expecting the Italian Movie Award” was screened with 15 projection films; among them, the preview of “7 days” by Rolando Colla.

THEME / The theme of the 2017 issue is “RADICI”.

The President and Artistic Director Carlo Fumo has therefore motivated the choice: “Historical, cultural and traditional roots of a nation that, through millions of descendants, has brought, in every corner of the world, the values ​​of an ancient people of creativity and of art has always been “flag carrier”. We could not choose a better topic than the decade of the Festival. We close a decade of great successes, obtained with passion and sacrifice, but above all, without ever losing sight of the love and the desire to enhance our wonderful territory: Campania, our roots. The idea of ​​creating an international film festival that could enhance a unique cultural, historical and tourist heritage, such as the Italian one, through not just a festival / event, but a real network of young professionals capable of making audiovisual works, spreading cinematic culture through hundreds of screenings of works from all over the world, attracting investment by ensuring the presence of great personalities in the cinema world and training young people through the creation of highly-trained master’s and workshops. ”

The Italian Movie Award®, for its social topics, received for six years the prestigious Bronze Medals of the Presidency of the Italian Republic, the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate of the Republic, in addition to the patronage of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities Tourism and the Campania Region.

PRIZES, FILMS AND GUESTS 2017 / The festival will be conducted this year by Luca Abete together with Carlo Fumo Artistic Director. Waiting for the Red Carpet: Riccardo Scamarcio, Laura Chiatti, Pif, Marco Bocci, the young webstar of “Casa Surace” and the trio bell phenomenon “I Ditelo You”. In projection and award, the films “Indivisibili” by Edoardo De Angelis, as best film; “The Time” by Ficarra and Picone, as best recessed; “John Wick 2″ by Chad Stahelski, as an international film; “Who Will Save The Roses?” By Cesare Furesi, Special Prize “Roots”; “I Have Friends In Paradise” by Fabrizio Maria Cortese, Special Award “Social”; “Gomorroids”, special premium independent distribution.

In addition, there will be the projection of the five short films nominated in the “Short Social World Competition 2017″. Finally, a special evening dedicated to SkyArteHD, with the special screening of the documentaries “Seven Wonders: Pompeii” and “Pompeii: Giardino dell’Ozio”, with the award to Director Roberto Pisoni.

JURY 2017 / President of the Short Social World Competition Jury will be the journalist and writer Paolo Chiariello. Honorary President of the Festival, the world-renowned researcher and oncologist, Prof. Antonio Giordano. They are also part of the jury: Pietro Amitrano, Mayor of the City of Pompei; Emanuele Nespeca, film maker and holder of Solaria Film Srl; Francesco Uccello, Writer; Roberta Inarta, Director of Cinema School of Naples; Maurizio Cortese, Gourmet and Director of the Consortium of Pasta di Gragnano; Danilo Autero, actor and theatrical director; Irina Bukreeva, President of the russia-italia Film Festival; Nicolas Simmich, Center manager C.C. La Cartiera; Diletta D’Errico, Director of Italian Movie Master; Maria Asatrian Pompei, President of the Italo-Russian Association Strategie.

ITALIAN MOVIE MASTER® / Again this year comes the Italian Movie Master®, an intensive, high-quality film training course for over 100 young students, who came to the fourth edition after having formed over 300 students since 2014. The Master is organized with the partnership of the Cinema School of Naples and the participation of university professors and great personalities of Cinema. The afternoon classes of the Master this year will also be held at the Council Hall, Pompeii City Hall.

THE LEADS / In the last editions, the numerous estimates, the countless public participation (over 140,000 certified attendance – 35,000 in the last edition) and the presence of great personalities have pushed the Festival beyond national boundaries, with the realization of prestigious side events, such as at the 69th Cannes Film Festival in France and the 74th Venice Film Festival in 2017; or dedicated events in New York City in the US and Moscow in Russia. In nine years of activity, over 60 days of Festival have been organized and over 25 collateral activities in more than 20 locations between Italy and abroad. More than 4,000 feature films, short films and documentaries were added to the Competitive Categories: more than 250 were selected in competition and screened during the festival and collateral events. The festival hosted over 200 filmmakers, actors, producers and artisans from all over the world.
